Da es zu dieser Bunkeranlage bereits einen ganz tollen deutschen Artikel gibt, möchte ich den Interessierten unter euch folgenden Link wärmstens empfehlen –> Geschichtsspuren.de
This post is about the former NATO headquarter Underground facility in Kindsbach/ Germany located just outside of Ramstein at a site known as Kindsbach Cave. As the site of a German Western Front Command Headquarters, the French took control of the underground bunker after World War II, and the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) assumed control in 1953.
After major renovations it was put into service in August 15th, 1954 as a Combat Operations Center/COC (later termed as Air Defense Operations Center/ADOC) of the 4th Allied Tactical Air Force (ATAF) under the command of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) Advanced Echelon.
Over several decades the Kindsbach Combat Operations Center played a key role in the NATO-air defense strategy during the cold war.
The main task of its 125 staff members was to assess, to compile and distribute the European air situation to the affiliated departments based on data supplied by different radar stations.
The Kindsbach Combat Operations Center has been closed in 1992 after the collapse of the former Soviet Union and subsequently the end of the Cold War.
Today the whole facility is privately owned. Guided tours can be booked but it’s extremely difficult to get hold of admission tickets.
